2:20 AM
10.26am.He rang the doorbell, and ran off.
retrieving his large backpack from behind the big oak, he flagged a cab.
--10 minutes later--10.36am.He got off the taxi, and made his way into the airport.
"that was fast", he thought. the streets were almost empty, and the cab had easily cruised the few kilometres.
he checked in his luggage.
he checked his watch. he was almost late for his flight. running to gate 28, he entered the plane.
just in time, the couple who were only a minute behind him didnt make it.
he sat down, and made himself comfortable.
a famous senator passed his seat. he warmly introduced himself and shook hands with the senator.
the senator sat down in front of him.
((--9 minutes earlier--
10.27am.
she opened the door. there was no one around. she looked around keenly, looking for the prankster who tricked her.
a solitary taxi drove past.
she shrugged, and looked down at the card set on the ground.
she picked it up, and went into the house, closing the door behind her.
she opened up the card.))
--11 minutes later--10.47am.the plane took off.
"at least i will never regret not saying my final goodbyes to her", he thought.
he reached into his pocket.
Theresa, I-
((--Five minutes earlier--
10.42am.
She was genuinely touched by the card, and her eyes welled up in joyful tears.
he had finally come to his senses, or so it seemed.
they could finally be together again, as perfect as it was in the past.
she re-read the letter again, and sighed in happiness.
with a new skip in her step, she scoured the house for the phone, looking to call him, and tell him how much she loved him.
suddenly, a thunderous boom resonated across the sky. her china collection jingled and vibrated and some glass ornaments fell off their stands, crashing to the floor.
with the phone and letter still in her hand, she rushed out of the house to see what had happened.))
10.48am.a portion of the sky was teeming with black smoke.
a smoking steel bird plummeted to the ground, its descent witnessed by many.
at last, it crashed to the ground, bringing with it many lives.
including the one who had orchestrated it all.
at the same time, a small, decorated Hallmark card fluttered and settled on the ground.
and Theresa, realizing what had happened, sank to the ground, defeated by her loss.
the card read :
while we were lovebirds, still together;
i assured you this would be for forever.
and although i said
that while we were in bliss,
i hold to my word, and it is true,
i will always, forever, love you.
look out to the sky, and you will see,
a flaming tribute to our love,
to you, from me.
Love, Wilson.
she took it figuratively.
